Day 31 – Makkah ( The Other Side )

Hello all and welcome to my blog, where I go out and capture the life I find in the streets in our country, a lot of you is misunderstanding what I’m really doing. I think the best way to say that I’m doing a documentary photography of some of the cities in Saudi Arabia along with capturing the life within it ! So I’m not focusing on documenting areas more then the life that my eye capture. Anyway today’s post is from the Holy city Makkah, and to be honest I didn’t capture not even a single photo for Al-Haram ( which has the Kaaba’ in it ) because of 2 reasons, first it’s illegal to do photography there & 2nd everybody saw it, know it and considered to be a well known matter to all muslims. So I went to what some call it the other side of Makkah, the side that nobody knows it’s exist or seen it, at least for a lot of people that don’t live in Makkah. Luckily I already know a photographer friend over there and thanks to him I was able to get to this area, it was a different world from any spot I saw anywhere and it was part of Makkah, well the other side of Makkah ! enough with me, I’ll let you see the photos for yourself !

مرحبا بالجميع وأهلا بكم في مدونتي، والتي أقوم هنا بتصوير الحياة التي أجدها في شوارع الدولة التي أعيش بها، كثيراً منكم يسيء فهم ما أفعله حقيقة. أعتقد أن أفضل طريقة لشرح ما أقوم به هو نوع ممزوج بين التصوير التوثيقي لبعض المدن في المملكة مع تصوير حياة الشارع بها ! لذلك أنا لا أركز في مشروعي على توثيق الأحياء والمدن أكثر من الحياة التي تلتقطها عيني في هذه الأماكن. على كل حال تدوينة اليوم هي من المدينة المقدسة مكة المكرمة ولكي أكون صريحاً معكم لم أقم بإلتقاط أي صورة للمسجد الحرام ! للأسباب معينة، الأول أن التصوير ممنوع في المسجد الحرام وقانوناً من الممكن الشخص يتضرر بسبب هذا المنع، السبب الثاني هو أن الجميع يعرف المسجد ورأه في عدة أماكن متفرقة ويعلم عنه بشكل جيد. لذلك قررت الذهاب لأماكن اخرى، البعض يطلق عليها الوجه الآخر من مكة، الوجه الذي لا يعلم عنه ولم يره أحد، على الأقل للذين يسكنون خارج منطقة مكة. من حسن حظي أني على معرفة  بأحد الأصدقاء الفوتوغرافيين من مكة وقد قام بإيصالي للمكان الذي أحتاج الوصول إليه، لقد كان عالماً آخر ومختلف من أي حي قمت بزيارته سابقاً ولقد كان جزءاً من مكة، أو لنقول جزءاً من الوجه الاخر من مكة ! على كل حال سأدعكم تشاهدون الصور بأنفسكم !

It was the first sight before I enter this area, it was on a mountain and these building are 20 years old and for some reason they are like this all the area !

المشهد الأول الذي شاهدته عند وصولي لهذا الحي، وهو موجود فوق جبل، وهذه المباني عمرها يترواح في العشرين سنة ولسبب ما منظرها هكذا في كل الحي !

Like I said before this is like a mountain so there are a lot of stairs everywhere left and right

مثل ذكرت سابقاً ان هذا المكان مثل الجبل، لذلك هناك عتبات من الدرج في كل مكان على اليمين واليسار

It was 3 hours before sunset and the sun light can barley get between the buildings and the alleys

He walked down the stairs until he just gone, this place is really high from the ground

لقد نزل من على عتبات الدرج حتى اختفى، هذا المكان مرتفع للغاية

He was hiding his face from me, he’s on one of the steps that takes you down from this market

كان يخفي وجهه مني، هو جالس على أحد العتبات من الدرج الذي يوصل إلى الأسفل من هذا السوق

It wasn’t night nor inside a building, it was just a small curtain over my head and between the buildings. A small shop

لم يكن الوقت ليلاً ولم يكن داخل مبنى، لقد كانت فقط ستارة صغيرة فوق رأسي وأنا واقف بين المباني لا أكثر. مجرد بقالة صغيرة في الحي

There was a small part where there were beautiful and simple drawings, I can sense that it brings comfort for anyone that pass’s from here

This got my attention a lot from a distance and what makes it more powerful that this old man sits here usually

هذه لفتت انتباهي من على بعد مسافة وما يجعلها أكثر قوة هو وجود هذا الرجل المسن هنا بمكانه المعتاد

Again stairs but this time from the bottom, I was told it gets me right back to that market !

مرة اخرى مع عتبات الدرج ولكن هذه المرة من الأسفل، قيل لي أنها توصلني مرة اخرى إلى السوق الذي مررت به !

This little girl has just arrived from school ( evening school ) and it was watching us from the house she live in

هذه الفتاة الصغيرة قد وصلت من المدرسة ( دوام مسائي ) ولقد كانت تراقبنا من منزلها الذي تعيش به

جميع هذه الصور مصورة بحيث تنقل الواقع الموجود في شوارع المملكة العربية السعودية سواء في المدن أو القرى، وجميع ما كتب والصور هنا ليس القصد بها أي ضرر أو إساءة على الإطلاق وإنما نقل الحدث كما هو موجود لتوثيقها للسنوات القادمة ( أتحدث لما بعد ٢٠ سنة )، ولا يحق لأي شخص الاعتراض أو التعدي على ما أقوم به ما دام لم يمسه هو شخصياً.

 

This is it ! I just want to say this is just a small part of a large area, sadly all the people there are afraid of being kicked out of their houses because of the government. Nobody knows when that gonna happen. I hope I presented you something you like to see about street life. Again this is the Other Side Of Makkah, See ya !
